Virtual TEEN CLUB for Adopted & Foster Youth of Color
August 8 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm$250
We are in a unique time of a pandemic (COVID-19) and an under acknowledged systemic pandemic of police brutality and racism directly impacting Black lives unjustly targeted. For those of us who are adopted and people of color, both Black and non-Black alike it is an alarming and scary time where we need one another more than ever. Join Ben Powning and Jaciara Bayer, both adopted themselves to create community with other adoptees of color. We will explore the intersections of adoption and identity and create a media message to share with the world about our collective narrative, what makes us unique, powerful and most importantly to reinforce that indeed WE MATTER.
We will have four sessions to get to know one another, and build a strong community. Please join us and become part of this virtual national community for 13 year old – 19 year old adoptee or foster youth of color only.
The group will meet via zoom for 4 sessions on 7/11, 7/25, 8/8 and 8/22 from 2:00-4:00pm central time
$250/youth, 15% discount for current Pact members. Price increases to $325 after July 3rd.
Scholarships available if needed. Click here for application form.
Jaciara Bayer is a transracial/international adoptee from Brazil; raised in a Jewish single parent household, in a minimally diverse town. Jaci has spent the last 10 years primarily working in health care as a Medical Social Worker, before deciding to make a career change through which she could best utilize her personal and professional experiences by working as a Fost-Adopt Social Worker for a Foster Family Agency. Jaci first started working with youth & professionals in the field of adoption/foster care through opportunities with Pact which she has remained connected to for the past 7 years. “Pact is an incredibly unique & sacred place that is so vital for all members of the triad, especially our youth. It is a space that I truly enjoy being a part of”.
Ben Powning, Pact’s Youth Programing Coordinator, is a mixed raced (Colombian, Filipino and white) transracial adoptee born and raised in the Bay Area. Ben has many years of experience working with children and is inspired by the importance of his own role models to be one for the children of Pact. Ben feels like being at Pact is being at home and he looks forward to providing that kind of welcoming and nurturing space for all of the youth who participate in Pact programming.
Please choose carefully when registering for Pact events. Pact is not in a position to refund workshop or event registration fees.
