Live Webinar: Relationship Resilience
June 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm$20
When we welcome children who have faced trauma or adversity into our homes and families, we begin to encounter some new layers of intensity within all of the relationships in the family. We know that many marriages and partnerships struggle with the intense new environment, and some don’t survive it at all. Yet, we also understand that the most resilient people have strong and supportive relationships as they walk through difficult and challenging times. Building and maintaining a healthy and thriving partnership while parenting children from hard places requires some intention. Join us for this unique webinar experience where we will hear from a couple involved in foster and adoptive parenting for over 30 years. They will share some of the intentional things they’ve done to create relationship resiliency throughout their marriage and parenting journey.
About the Trainers: Lori and Randy Ross began fostering in 1985, shortly after they were married. Along with their five birth daughters, they have cared for more than 400 children and adopted 23 children from the foster care systems in Kansas and Missouri over the past 31 years. Lori began working with other foster parents in 1998 to form a support group for fostering families. That group envisioned more substantial services for families caring for abused and neglected children. FosterAdopt Connect (www.fosteradopt.org) has grown into a thriving nonprofit social service agency employing over 200 staff members, currently operating its headquarters in Independence, Missouri, with branches throughout Kansas and Missouri. As an organization formed by families to serve families, FosterAdopt Connect provides a unique approach to solving systemic problems that allow kids to fall through the safety net within the child welfare system and has garnered attention for its solutions to national child welfare problems.
Randy’s career began with 25 years in the Restaurant Industry. He worked his way up from busboy to managing partner in four fine-dining restaurants in the Kansas City area. He then went into partnership in one of Kansas City’s premier specialty meat markets, McGonigle’s, where he worked for 20 years, building up a prepared foods and catering arm which produced millions in annual revenue. The owners sold the business in early 2020, and Randy agreed to stay on to help transition the store to its new owners. He continues to serve as the “Director of Fun” for the Ross family.
Lori and Randy’s children now range in age from 41-9, with six still living at home. They have 17 grandchildren. Despite all of the challenges, Lori and Randy remain very happily married and aspire to be each other’s best friend and biggest supporter every day. They are currently working on a five-year plan to run away to an island and find a way to retire.
